When it rains in Los Angeles, the rainwater flows from our streets to our storm drains, and then into concretized water ways like the LA River before heading out to sea. At our Un-development 1 site, instead of losing this valuable resource, rainwater is captured, cleansed, and used to irrigate native plants and vegetation, creating a self-sustaining system. In this video from our Moving Mountains tour, we explain the process.
Moving Mountains is a city-scale initiative diverting clean soil away from our waste streams and into powerful remediation practices. This summer, we gave weekly tours demonstrating how we reimagine disturbance, bringing a landslide from Topanga Canyon back into the city as a tool for ecological and social repair. Follow along as we post more videos from the tour, and post your questions in the comments!
